Learn how to enjoy the outdoors on a hike with a naturalist-led program.

NEW HAMPSHIRE ADVENTURE-SEEKERS
  1. Meet at a state campground that takes group reservations. Kingston State Park has a 300-foot beach, a softball field and playground. For more, go to group-friendly lodging.

  2. Visit Canobie Lake Park in Salem, a family tradition for more than 100 years. This lakeside amusement park has more than 85 rides, games, live entertainment and attractions, plus landscaped picnic areas.

  3. Parasail along Hampton Beach, one of the cleanest beaches in America. Or play volleyball and hunt for shells.

  4. Head toward the Lakes Region and visit Squam Lakes Natural Science Center (group tours available) in Holderness. See bears, fox and other animals native to New Hampshire.

  5. Stay at the Joe Dodge Lodge, a hub for outdoor adventures in the White Mountains. There’s on-site dining and a hiker shuttle to nearby trailheads.

  6. Enjoy a naturalist-led program with a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club.

  7. Travel north to Lake Umbagog for a moose-watching adventure. Lake Umbagog also has the state’s largest concentration of common loons.

IDEAS FOR RELAXING IN NEW HAMPSHIRE
  1. Enjoy shopping and dining in Keene, a classic New England village with a unique history. It was originally attacked and burned during the French and Indian War, but would be rebuilt to later become a thriving mill and industrial hub. Every October, Keene hosts the Pumpkin Festival, where thousands of jack-o’-lanterns light up the night.

  2. Indulge on LA Burdick’s signature chocolate mice and wash down that adorable delicacy with a steaming serving of gourmet hot chocolate at their Walpole café. Also in Walpole, you can feel the cool breeze that crosses nearly 400 acres at Boggy Meadow Farm, and savor the all-natural flavors of their farmstead cheese.

  3. Take a dinner cruise on the M/V Kearsarge out of Lake Sunapee Harbor past historic lighthouses and islands.

  4. Check out the cafés, museums and boutiques in the capital city of Concord. Launch your imagination to planets, moons and trans-Neptunian objects at The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, named for Christa McAuliffe, the first teacher in space, and Alan Shepard, the first man in space.

  5. Take a leisurely drive to the shoreline. Route 4 is known as Antique Alley, with more than 500 dealers selling everything from butter churns to brass chandeliers. In Barrington, you’ll also find Calef’s Country Store, one of the state’s oldest, with a great penny candy section.

  6. Have a picnic at Hampton Beach, or hunt for shells. Music lovers will want to stay for the free concerts held at the Seashell Stage, and the fireworks on Wednesday and Saturday evenings during the summer season.
